Video works by Roi Carmeli
Roi Carmeli
Jan 3, 2014 to Jan 26, 2014
Roi Carmeli

An explorer of art practice, Roi Carmeli works in a variety of art disciplines and environments. His beautifully crafted objects are the subject of this short series of vignettes. They hint at things we often feel but cannot express. What appears unfamiliar at first glance becomes subtly and poetically loaded with politics and emotion, symbol and metaphor, and the raw material that makes us human.

Water City Berkeley: a film by Kim Anno
Water City Berkeley
Oct 5, 2013 to Oct 6, 2013
Kim Anno

A chapter, from Men and Women in Water Cities series, 2010-present. This staged work is about adapting to a watery world in climate change and maintaining aesthetic and intellectual life and redefining leisure time in the face of the coming disaster. Choreographer KT Nelson of the Oberlin Dance company collaborated with Anno to create a beautiful, haunting, and cryptic short film that imagines an impacted world both light and dark. The actors are mainly young people who are the inheritors of the problem from previous generations.

Tides
Tides
Oct 4, 2013 to Oct 10, 2013
Oliver Dillon

Tides is an exploration of change. Artist Oliver Dillon makes drawn, sculptural, and interactive pieces that present timelines, half-lives, and chaotic events. These works reflect on how art history and aesthetics frame our understanding of short and long-term events, and how these changes shift the consciousness of a society. He offers this as a next step to moving contemporary culture forward and understanding our position in the universe.

Mediation
Mediation
Mar 1, 2013 to Mar 19, 2013
Dan Swindel, Denali Schmidt, Kait Mooney

Mediation exhibits the work of three Bay Area artists whose practices engage with existing spaces and their societal formations. The works explore the temporal and spatial disjunctions necessary to establish our surroundings, thereby highlighting the manner in which spaces are perceived. Veering away from utopian modernist ideas, these works investigates the queering of space, the process of lens-based distillation and the discarded object.
